First Look: Barbie Movie 2023 Dolls
(FYI, this article was written mid-May 2023 and I was only able to publish until now. Since a lot has been released since then, I will provide more updates in future blog articles. Thanks for your support and understanding Barbie Bestie!)
Hi Barbie Besties! The pictures of the promotional Barbie
Dolls for Barbie the Movie 2023 have been released this week (Editorial
Note: week of 5/15/2023), and I wanted to share this with
you all as soon as I could! According to YouLoveit.com,
we have new images of Margot Robbie's version of Barbie. This doll is known as Barbie movie 2023 Perfect Day/Project Arch Barbie
doll HPJ96*. Of the many versions of the Barbie movie doll listed, this
is the only Barbie Millicent Roberts live action movie doll that we currently
have multiple images of. Also, there is only one picture of Ryan Gosling as
Barbie the Movies Ken (Barbie movie picture credit Ghoulia Fox and Usaka). This
doll is known as Barbie movie 2023 Perfect
Day/Project Arch Ken doll HPJ97*.
Both dolls are only pictured inside their respective boxes
and are not unpackaged. It is a simple package design that will look nice for
display, but it is not overly fancy. It does give off "Life In the
Dreamhouse" vibes and does remind me of the packaging released around that
time circa 2009 or so with its sleek design and clear plastic box. They both
appear to be articulated. However, I do not believe that they have made to move
bodies. So, doll photographers and collectors alike, please plan ahead in
anticipation for re-bodying to a more desired doll body type.
I do la-love both of them! I really like how Margot Robbie's
doll looks. She does have a very pretty face and does resemble the actress
quite a bit. The face appears to be sculpted as a caricature of Margot Robbie's
face. This may not be appealing to a lot of Barbie fans or Margot Robbie fans,
but when looking back over the years, a lot of movie dolls have had this style
of sculpting done. We'll see if it is only this doll for Barbie or if the other
versions will have this particular sculpt style as well. I like the long pink
and white gingham dress this doll is wearing. It is very classic Barbie,
fashionable, and an outfit that she wears in the trailer.
I like Ryan Gosling' version of Ken as well. From the looks
of the doll, although it is a new face sculpt, it does not appear to be in the
celebrity caricature style. I think it resembles him but doesn't look exactly
like him. The picture has him posed with a surfboard in a swim trunk and a
matching button-down shirt. I do admit that the doll is a handsome one and he
has rooted hair! Although the plastic hair has gotten better over the years, I
have missed Ken doll rooted hair for a long time! The doll has a slender build,
so I would be interested in seeing someone re-body him to a more muscular made
to move body type. I also noticed that with the Barbie Extra Fly Ken doll, he
has rooted hair too. So, this is making a comeback! The Barbie movie Ken, when
you take a closer look at his face, reminds me of a cross between circa 2004
Happy Family Alan's face sculpt particularly his smile and the typical rooted
hair ken doll from the early to mid-90s. I don't know how I feel about that,
but I still love these images, and it's making me very excited for the movie
and seeing more images from this collection of dolls!
There is available an extensive list of what appears to be
all of the Barbie the movie collection of toys and accessories. I will be
covering that at a later time. I have plans for collecting as many as I can and
reviewing them too!
