In my first look article for the Fashion Pack Barbie The Movie 2023 (HPK01), I covered the difficulties that I have faced in receiving my last order from wave 1 thereby getting this fashion pack finally delivered to me. I have an update in regards to that below in the buyer’s guide section. For now, I just want to cover the three outfits that come with this fashion pack. What is great is that it is not just clothes alone. Included are also neat accessories such as matching shoes, hair accessories, and jewelry; all per outfit!

Outfit #1 is the cute blue and white sundress! It comes with striped bloomers, polka-dotted headscarf, a blue bracelet, a white bracelet, and solid white pair of stiletto heels! If you have been purchasing the other dolls in this collection, you will notice that some of the back packaging features Margot Robbie wearing this outfit as she is seated in the convertible! It is a great summertime outfit that will look awesome in photoshoots at the beach.

Outfit #2 is the fitted pink blouse and mini shorts set! It comes with

A matching wide-brimmed hat, pink necklace, and chunky heeled beige sandals! It is in the same gingham pattern as her pink gingham "Perfect Day" dress! Margot Robbie is wearing this outfit in the trailer when she is with the other Barbies and Kens at the beach. Since I adore the matching dress, you know I just love this outfit! Barbiecore to the core and I want more!!!

Outfit #3 is the pajama set with pink buttons and lace trim! It comes with a satin bow, hairbrush, pink bracelet, and slip on pink high heel shoes. The pajama set has little textured pink dots on both the shirt and shorts that isn't very noticeable in pictures unless pointed out. The shirt also has two real pockets on the front. This is where sleeping in style also intersects with comfort. After a doll finishes stroking her hair a thousand times before bed, she must put on awesome PJs to sleep in right? I love the fact that we also got to see Margot in the trailer wearing this outfit too as she gets up and out of bed to get on with her "Perfect Day!"

It is not available in stores, only for online purchase. I purchased this fashion pack from Mattel Creations alongside the Ken Doll in White and Gold Tracksuit Barbie The Movie 2023 (HPK04) on June 4th, 2023. On June 28th, 2023, I finally received the Ken doll but no fashion pack! My account with Mattel Creations stated that this fashion pack is still being prepared for shipment. When I finally receive this fashion pack from Target, I will provide an update as soon as possible. If I ever receive the first order of this fashion pack from Mattel Creations, I will provide an update about that one as well!

Pink Corvette Convertible Barbie The Movie 2023 HPK02: Review and Buyer’s Guide

The Pink Corvette Convertible Barbie The Movie 2023 (HPK02) is one of two grand replicas of the 1956 Corvette Stingray that Margot Robbie's Barbie drives in the new Barbie the Movie opening this July 21st, 2023. This is again not to be confused with The Hot Wheels RC Barbie Corvette Car Barbie The Movie 2023 (HPW40). I have been repeating this to the point of being annoying for a good reason! I thought that the Hot Wheels version was the only one! In my budget, I had plans for the one car. When I realized that there was another one and it cost more than the Hot Wheels version, I had to scramble to find the extra funds because I wanted the complete collection since this movie and the dolls mean a lot to me and my daughter. This now will affect the timeline of my future purchases of collectibles outside of this doll line. I hope to help at least one fellow doll collector who is also on a budget not make the same mistake I did by being very vocal about this. Also, I was very fortunate that the car was still available on Walmart.com, when I realized I had an additional car to purchase a few days later after the initial release date! Now I have to wait to purchase the other dolls, accessories, playsets, tools and supplies I had been planning on buying much sooner than later.

With my limited knowledge of cars in play, I can tell that this car, like HPW40, has been created with great attention to detail and captures the look and feel of the actual car in the movie in a realistic manner. I do love the curvy retro design and appeal of the car. I am a huge fan of vintage anything from the 1940s and 1950s, so a pink and white convertible that looks like this is just beyond pleasing to my all too eager eyes. The interior looks to be as dreamy as the exterior. It houses the old school looking, cushioned, vinyl seats in pink and white. The little details placed into the dashboard is just delightful and I noticed that the door has little details too such as the silver handle to work the car windows (there ain't no glass to roll up or down but it be there just chillin') that add to the overall realism. Unfortunately, it is all made out of hard plastic, and it doesn't have any plush, cushiony seats. I think this might be a notable missed opportunity. I mean it is an extra $20 dollars more than the Hot Wheels version, why not for another $20 or $40 make this little car with plush seating too? I have all of these questions about mass production because I do have a genuine interest in the decision-making process where as it concerns time, money, cost, and budget. I don't know if I'll ever get the answers. Maybe one day.

Other notable features that this model also has in common with the Hot Wheels version is the working trunk, steerable, rolling wheels, and steering wheel. However, the features that are exclusive only to this model are the working doors and the capacity to house up to a total of four dolls at the same time! This is absolutely revolutionary to me! I do not recall any other Barbie car that could hold more than two dolls at a time in such a classic and stylish manner! I most certainly had to get it since it will definitely come in handy for future photo sessions and story projects!

This car, HPK02, was purchased on June 7th, 2023. Once processed, it was finally delivered to me on June 30th, 2023. Of all the items I ordered at the beginning of June, this is the second to last one that I have received. This timeline illustrates the high demand for these dolls, accessories, and playsets from this movie, and the turn around time it takes to ship these items to the buyer in a timely manner. In some cases, there is no timely manner. Please plan accordingly.

Ken Doll in White and Gold Tracksuit Barbie The Movie 2023 HPK04: Review and Buyer’s Guide

Face Sculpt: New (Simu Liu?)

As mentioned in my first look article, this Barbie the Movie 2023 Ken Doll in White and Gold Tracksuit HPK04 has certainly left a lingering first impression that just made me feel so excited to finally get him! Particularly with all of the dolls and playsets being offered in this product line being sold out so quickly and some dolls only being offered either at a specific online store or at a physical location, it has made the dollhunt very exciting and has definitely built up the desire to see this movie and rewatch it again! As previously mentioned, since I am a big Life in the Dreamhouse webisode series fan, I do love the character Ryan simply because I enjoy rooting for the underdog and anti-hero. Simu's version reminds me so much of how Ryan would act if he were in the movie! From the movie, the "Beach Off" scene was hysterical as was the "Hello Barbie and Hi Ken" scene. I loved it so much that I can't wait for this movie to be officially released on DVD! The extras such as the behind the scenes footage and deleted scenes bonus will be amaze!

This is definitely a new face sculpt that has been designed for this specific doll and doll line. Some of his facial features does remind me of the Barbie Extra Fly Ken doll with dark and greenish streaks of hair. It makes me curious as to why not just use that exact facemold to mass produce this doll but just add Simu's features to it? I certainly would not have minded but perhaps I just might be the only doll collector with that sentiment. I think he does resemble the actor a little bit. It is the same level of resemblance that exists between Ryan Gosling and his doll that also exists here with Simu and his plastic counterpart. As a doll collector and fan of Barbie dolls, it is something to accept and hope for more details should there be a second movie after this one is finally released. I do like his face paint and the attention to detail placed on giving him the same beauty mark pattern that the actor has on his face.

His rooted hair is dark auburn brown shade and has been cut into a neat and short hairstyle. His hairstyle gives a certain rather preppy look that still is casual enough to fit in at the beach. I am curious once his hair is washed how full his hair will become because it does look longer and fuller than blonde Ken's hair. To me, it is like the early days Dreamhouse Ryan doll in certain aspects of detail.

I am a bit disappointed with his articulation wherein it is the old 12-point fashionista articulated male body. Since the male made to move bodies are a lot stronger looking than the female made to move body and thereby more posable with less assistance, I was hoping that at least one of each type of Ken doll in this product line would have the made to move articulated body. Particularly I would have preferred this Ken to be selected since the rest of the male dolls are of the blonde Ken doll and there is only one darked haired one. To make matters worse, this doll's theme is the disco party get together. How do you have limited articulation for the dance party scene? Why? What is this about really?

Come to think of it, it would have been great to have at least for each kind of version of main Barbie or Ken Doll released one of the versions had been a made to move one.

As an example, let's look at the blonde male Ken dolls released in wave 1. Either denim set or pastel beach Ken would have been a great selection for made to move level articulation. For dark haired Ken, since this golden tracksuit Ken is the only one released then he should have been given a made to move body. Likewise with main blonde Barbie. At least one of her should be made to move. My best selection for her would be Disco Barbie in the gold jumpsuit. If that would have meant an extra ten dollars to the price, I would have gladly paid it because if any of us want to articulate this dark-haired male doll at the made to move level, we will have to pay an upwards of $20 or more to get it done. Also, we would have to spend the time and effort to find the correct skin tone match and to carefully do it ourselves. Not to mention nowadays it seems easier to crack the doll necks while swapping heads. The less a doll collector had to spend time on doll customizing the better. The extra $10 or $15 added to the existing $50 would have been fantastic with all things taken into consideration!

His clothes are wonderful! But I do have a real-life bias for fashionable workout clothes. I love the shimmery gold block sleeves of the white varsity tracksuit jacket with the golden initial K on it! It looks sporty but sharp. It has a real working zipper that is a very feature on regular Ken doll clothes. No, you do not see this all the while on Barbie clothes and especially NOT on Ken clothes in the toy aisle. The matching tracksuit pants are loose fitting without being overly baggy. The pant legs have golden trim detail running down both sides and the legs also slightly pools over the matching sold white sneakers. The doll also has real pants pockets too with golden trim detail.

I can't wait to get the other dolls dressed up for a dance party that will be absolutely fun and completely Barbie goodtime vibes!

The fashion pack that was ordered along side this doll still has not been shipped to me. He is a gorgeous doll in person and like golden disco barbie looks wonderful in any bright lighting you place them in! They both steal the spotlight well!

Barbie in Gold Disco Jumpsuit Doll Barbie The Movie 2023 HPJ99: Review and Buyer’s Guide

In my first impressions article, I had mentioned that this Barbie the Movie 2023 Barbie in Gold Disco Jumpsuit HPJ99 had reminded me of my very first Barbie doll gifted to me as a child. This doll has great sentimental value and importance to me so I decided to do some research and found that my childhood doll is called: Golden Dream Barbie (#1874) from 1980! I was really excited to at the very least identify her and to remember all the feelings that I had when I got her as a Christmas gift back in the early 80s. Wow! Awesome memories. I can see now why it was important to include a doll like this in the product line for the movie. It is a glorious reproduction and representation of such an iconic doll.

I have already touched upon this doll's face sculpt in the articles that I have done about the other dolls in this product line such as the Perfect Day Barbie, the Barbie Plaid Matching Set Doll, and the Barbie Western Outfit doll. It is the exact same face with the exact same makeup painted on. Her hairstyle is more or less the same. She does not have bangs like Perfect Day Barbie. Her hair is loose, wavy, and parted down the side. A cute detail is what she is wearing in her hair, the little butterfly wings pseudo hairclip. It reminds me of the cape/skirt the original doll from the 80s doll came with! Since we do not get the cape with this doll, the hair accessories is a cute alternative and trade off for sure.

Her clothes! The golden jumpsuit is so elevated!!! While the original outfit imbodies the early 80s and the last parts of disco in textured gold lamé, this updated gold jumpsuit is a great new version that embraces the 70s vibes without looking outdated. Its silver sequins laced in a swirly pattern over sparkly and shimmery light golden material. It is striking and subtle all at the same time producing a shade of gold that doesn't overpower the senses. A look like this has the potential to be timeless even if it has retro vibes and appeal. I like her gold bracelets and stiletto gold shoes. They are all a very nice match and fit to the overall appearance enhancing it well.

Daydreaming about posing and displaying her feels like it is going to be a dream come true! Of course, we will be posing her in the iconic pose from the movie and trailer, but other scenarios come to mind too as well. A dance floor full of sound, light, people, and fun comes to mind for sure. Whatever the scenario, at the center of the theme will be a good time and a party!

Since shortly after the dolls were released for sale, this one lasted at least 2 to 3 days before she completely sold out online at Mattel Creations. However, it would appear that she is available to purchase online from Walmart. (Currently, she is periodically sells out at Walmart too.) In person, I can't stress how much of a lovely doll she is and I am very happy to have her in my collection. Now, I just have to get a replica of my childhood one to make an awesome pairing!

Ken Doll Denim Matching Set Barbie The Movie 2023 HRF27: Review and Buyer’s Guide

Face Sculpt: New (RyanGosling?)

The Ken-ergy radiating from this doll is supposed to be on par with Barbiecore! Together they create a synergy that is unbeatable! Starting with details of his face, it is no different than the other blonde Ken dolls in this collection. Outside of the dark-haired Ken, this one is based upon the likeness of one actor from the movie. And he is only a close resemblance, not an exact one. In my previous article about this Ken doll, I covered his face mold and body type in great detail. To briefly recap, it is the same face and same 12 point articulated male fashionista body. There is no articulation in the ankles. The feet are still flat, and potentially sturdy enough to stand without the use of a doll stand. Nothing has changed here except for his clothes. This may or not be a great concern for some people.

I do like his clothes! They are very 90s and reminiscent of those old black and white Calvin Klein billboard ads. He is wearing a light blue denim sleeveless vest jacket with no shirt underneath. He is topless and the front of the vest is open giving a view of his plastic chest. He is also wearing a matching pair of light blue denim pants with the elastic band from his underwear showing above the waistline of the pants. Embroidered around the elastic band is Ken. I think it is rather clever decision to select this style of fashion because it is a mix of both cheesy and sexy while just works for both the doll and the live action counterpart from the movie. Ryan Gosling took promotional shots in the exact same outfit, and he looks awesome. This doll does have the potential to become an iconic doll for Mattel. The demand for this doll is already very high even though the movie has not been released yet and this has been going on since it was released at the beginning of June 2023. More on this later in the review.

I do envision very high end, supermodel style photo shoots with this doll! One could outright pose him exactly like he was modeling for Calvin Klein ads or have him relaxing at him getting some yard work done in his backyard. Having him take a long stroll on a boardwalk would look good too. There seems to be no shortage of fun little scenarios for this one!

My Barbie the Movie 2023 Ken Doll Denim Matching Set (HRF27) was purchased at a later time from my other Barbie The Movie doll/playset collectibles on June 4th, 2023. I had selected preorder and once processed it was shipped and delivered to me on June 21st. This doll was packaged and shipped inside of a Target box. This doll took a while to get to me because Target like Amazon more than likely got over flooded with orders from customers and was having difficulty keeping up with supply and demand. From a collector's perspective, he is a great purchase. I do wish that he came with other accessories though!

In person, I do like the quality of denim they used for this doll! It is great to be purchasing items that are at a different quality standard than play line! I hope to see more of this quality on the market!

Depending upon the store, the price ranges from $49.97 to $50.99 before tax and shipping and handling. They sell out quickly on Amazon and are sold out on Mattel's site. Keep searching the different online options until you finally secure yours for delivery. It will also appear on online auction too as well like eBay but the prices are sometimes twice and triple the current retail value. If you need it now or it is not for sale in your area then please purchase wisely.
